Pre-race Summary

The 2003-2004 results are at the bottom of the page for comparison
JUNE 2nd SUMMING UP
  • High Heel Sneakers made a promising debut in a slow race on soft ground but produced a moderate form level. Her trainer's record with STO runs is patchy enough to not be certain that she will show reasonable progress. He had two run poorly 6 days ago. If she were opposed by a runner with a similarly promising previous run it would be very tempting to oppose here.
  • However, only Gallery Girl has form approaching an acceptable level and she would need to show unusual improvement to be competitive.
  • This leaves the best of the newcomers as the possible source of a runner capable of pressuring High Heel Sneakers enough to test her fully. Sunday Smile has an excellent pedigree and has good prospects to be at least useful. However, her trainer has introduced 23 2yos in June in the last two seasons and only 3 have won. The winners have been have been better types in moderate races (one only because of the persistence of jockey K Dalgleish). She would probably need to be superior to win today.
  •  Zaharath Al Bustan also runs for a trainer who tends to get FTO wins only for specific owners in the first half of the season. She is owned by J Abduller so qualifies on the 'specific owner' count. The market has been a solid indicator with his three targeted FTO wins in 2005 (2 for this owner). The other debut wins have been at longer SPs in races that needed less winning than appeared likely.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • There has not been a corresponding race in the last two years.
  • TRAINERS:
  • P Cole record with STO runs of early season debuts is mixed. He is notable in that his earlier debut runners do not tend to include the majority of the season's winners. They often include a number of runners which have long breaks to their STO run and may not win during the season. Often after promising debuts.
  • In 2004 the first 9 debuts through to May 21st included 5 runners who did not run again and another that had one other run. In 2003 several early runners did not run again or had long breaks to the second run.
  • He has already shown his normal traits of running 2yos in maidens at better courses and the market has been little help with assessing how they will perform. A number have been backed and run poorly (e.g. White Ladder & Power Broker) and a number have drifted in the market and placed.
  • His STO record is patchy with no winner from 6 runs. Three of those have been beaten at 11/4 or less after showing promise on debut. Oceans Apart was beaten at odds-on after a good 2nd at Newmarket; Bee Seventeen faded quickly and was well beaten at 9/4f after a 2nd at Newmarket; Art Historian faded badly on the same day as Bee Seventeen at 11/4.
  • He runs High Heel Sneakers here who plugged on late for a volunteer 3rd in a slow race on soft at Goodwood.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sire Mozart (Beverley Hills) has a runner.
