SUMMARY
7mm of watering applied on Saturday before racing.
Odd race visually with a Leading Line of 5 after 2 with, from rail out, FR, CTTE, GMD, AWK & Ahtoug and LR close in behind and EV 2L+ back on rail. But pace not look strong, final time ordinary and stronger members of L-o-5 make solid later race efforts. Efforts overall read more sensibly as average pace followed by Ahtoug (Ajtebi failing to control himself as ever) kicking the final efforts off early by free running and pulling to the lead just after halfway.
Only GMD able to go with Ahtoug at this point and clear seond. But, partly because of the early start to the later race part, GMD unable to finish race off and lose 4 places in the last 0.5f with a fade.
Of the others LR, CTTE & EV outpaced by this kick to some extent. CTTE lost lead but nor fade and plugging on again late after getting unbalanced trying to accelerate.
LR turning into a difficult horse to find the right distance and Run Style for. Does not look the most willing at times to add to the issues. Struggled for pace over course & distance in the Hilary Needler and a solid finish to the line picking up faders and places. Similar over 6f at Redcar next time in an average paced race with more getting outpaced and looking less than willing before plugging on again. Raced a little away from the rail at Newcastle last time when the Stands' rail was a Magic Carpet and anything that raced even a little away from it was liable to a late race collapse. Back here on a stiff 5f with an average pace and more of what you would expect. Travel up behind the leading line ok. Get outpaced as the efforts go then clawing ground back to the finish. Perhaps she isn't a 5-6f horse at all and needs 7f. Or holding up in a pace war and plug on to pick up the pieces over 5-6f. Before her attitude spirals off or her lack of scope hampers her in later season.
Ahtoug different to LR in that he has basic opace and fails to stay 6f last time. Dropping back to 5f on a stiff track saw him finish the race well. Ran Centre track throughout and the Far Rail bias of previous seasons seems almost gone.
EV a promising run. Green and unable to pick up at 2F+ out. But, going on strongly at the finish and another, solidly built, neatly made and balanced mover for the trainer.
BD given a non-involving & educational hold-up ride and his third outing. OR66-72 type for Nurseries now.
