SUMMARY
Rail out as usual now.
Stiff, contested pace with a forcing line of 3 coming together as, from rail out, ML, DoS & SShow. These three race too freely and ML responded to being pressed by DoS after 2.5f to up pace again and pull then a little clear of SShow.
Halfway positions o final placings show how prominent racers, mostly, faded back relatively early and producing a set-up where Closrers could get into the ruck, well behind the winner, by the finish.
WL the first 2yo winner for her trainer since Speciosa in 2005. Like that winner had shown ability with a strong place on debut. Raced too freely in a strong pace race STO and actually ran very well to be first of the prominent racers home that day. Has since learnt to settle (mostly) in 2nd rank and then produce a late race finish and showing a willing attitude. Second on her last two runs but beaten by above average types both times in the context of Northern Auction & maiden races. This race set up ideally for her with the possibilities similar ability horses to challenge her, on profile, going too strongly in the line of three. She was settled at 2.5L off the lead at halfway and best placed to jump to the lead when the leaders expired. Showed her usual willing finish.
ML bigger and flashy but narrower bodied and lighter built behind when you get past the surface looks. After three 2nds in three runs and a fair bit of hanging and holding her head at odd angles in later race the professional 'knockers' have an easy time labelling her as dodgy. If you were in forgiving mood you could build another take on things.
Did best of the pacemakers here and trying too hard in early race and responding to any challenge by trying to keep ahead. Head held at a funny angle then. Hangs in later race once she is starting to fade and is too weak and leggy, at present, to carry her size once the free-running has worn her out. Has shown a solid level of form and could blossom by a competent, settled run.
Beckett debut runners have been profitable to follow over the years with a bit of selection and the Market had little clue which were the ok ones. 33/1 for Look Here's debut win and all that. DoD supported here and hints that info is leaking to the Market now. But, she ran too freely here and faded.
Couple of horses made 6 places after Halfway to get the 'Eyecatcher' pundits twitchy in OOTS & Ms Sinatra. Closing up into stalled horses and recording moderate ratings. OOTS on STO and had done the same FTO. Not an exciting profile. Ms S on debut for non forcing trainer and probably a little more interesting. Chokurei probably as promising as either and got involved earlier. A warning about digging about for 'Eyecatchers' at the back of the race with Cheers hanging left in later race and eased. Hughes reported she had lost her action but had not been strong in the Market. Let's see if the Hannon's can 'Fix' her for a 4TO Nursery blossomimg.
