SUMMARY
£10k Yearling Bonus Race. But, the unnecessary wariness of many trainers over using Brighton produced a thin field overall.

Stiff breeze as a direct tailwind in the straight. Watering to produce GF going (no details given). Going Stick 8.9. Race meeting delayed by 45 minutes because one of the vets not at the track.

Solid looking time and seemed to stand up against the other times on the card. BUT, a messy race and taking a positive view of the form seems to require taking a positive view of some unlikely things. Strong form from a small one that cost £6k in March, strong debut from a Gallagher runner, etc. Seems more likely to be low level 60s form, at best, by the winner and the two favourites underperforming.

Look at the race from Pitt Rivers perspective and he did multiple things wrong and he gets beaten less than a length closing up to the others near the line. You presume he was gaining ground, on sufference, on faders who were walking to the line. PR had been cut-up and stumbled at the start then taken time to get going (he didn't look the zippiest, nor a point-and-shoot, type FTO). When he did get going he then got cut-up on the rail by PPius. Switched out wide and made some progress downhill into other's efforts. But, then looking uncomfortable ont he track when asked to make his effort and not making any ground. Got from 4th to a closing 2nd late on without really going forward properly. Suggest he ran to OR75 here and what could he achieve when he runs a proper race on a course that suits him? Smaller but solid build and ordinary efficiency because of the set-up.

RH small and sold poorly at the breeze-up where the rider never asked her to stretch out. Small and OR60s type. Haule dback at the start on debut and put out of the race by that then not really asked to do much later on and jockeys used lack of a clear run to pack it in early. Allowed to drop back here when AEW & FR took off then made the effort early downhill to press the leader. Able to just outlast AEW before fading. No interest going forward.

AEW showed pace at uphill BVLY FTO then faded in the last 0.5f. On the flat 2f finish at PFCT seem to keep going better LTO until fading very late on. Seemed to run too freely here and then not able to kick away from the 2R on the downhill here as she had on the break of uphill at PFCT. This race 0.3f longer than 5f and with an uphill finish and she seemed not to be able to finish the race off in that set-up having run freely. Quality of her PFCT 2nd gets tested twice in the next two days by Pyman's Theory & Springleaf. If those two are uncompetitive then the PFCT race less solid than it looks and those the wrong side of gaps back from the 3rd-4th very poor.

John Gallagher only had 1 x 2yo winner before 2010 and that a less than sure piece of career development. He managed two in 2010 but both were good physical types. Both ran poorly on debut, took until 3-4TO to win and the their form tailed off. Which makes the proximity of Parker Pius a niggle over the form. Ran green at times and losing ground but challenged for the win and in the bunch rolling to the line together at the finish. Did not look as good a type as the two winners he trainer had in 2010.

FR hung right downhill so may not have handled the track. Tried to chase AEW when she ran free and upped the pace though so perhaps an indicator of a stiff pace causing the general fading and bunched finish.
