SUMMARY

S from GS two days prior. 18mm of overnight rain (since previous day's racing) to early morning. Showers forecast for the day. Going Stick = 10:30am & 6.2 Stands Side & Centre & 5.8 Far Side. Medium to Stiff Westerly Wind = Half Tailwind from the Right.

Hannon website = "City Image only got warmed up just in time when winning over five on her debut at Windsor, so we thought she would be suited by stepping up to six furlongs for the Empress Stakes over this course last time and she won that Listed race in some style. She is a decent filly, as is Maureen, who might benefit from sticking to six rather than dropping back to five for the Super Sprint, where she was obviously well in. She travelled like a dream on her debut at Newbury, and, though it looked an ordinary race, she was impressive and deserves a crack at black type here."

Stalls Stands Side but field taken over to Stands' Rail at the earliest opportunity by Mandy Layla. Faster first 1F by ML 2L clear as she took the field over. Then she settled the pace once on the rail.

Sectional Times per Furlong for the Entire Field = ML led for 4F then Jadanna took over around the 1F mark for the unexciting 5th 1F time and then SMLTRose took over just inside the last 1F which produced a Slow time with Maureen closing up in the last 1F.

Maureen & Send'rose together just over 2F+ but winner hung left to centre track and able to make one long, uninterrupted, effort. Maureen on the rail and blocked there then blocked again by hanger when switched off it and probably 4L off the winner when got clear towards the last 1F and got most of that back. Both ready 2yos and lacking scope.

Another good effort by Jadanna doing best of the prominent runners and probably produced the best effort at 2F out but not seeing the 6f out in the conditions. City Image hanging left and not picking up in the last 2F. Lovely Pass a slow start and off the back of the field early. Made a real effort in the first 2f to make the ground back into a solid pace. Another to not pick up and hang left later in the race.
