SUMMARY
33mm of rain from previous Weds-Sun & dry since but Rain forecast for the afternoon. Steady rain from 1:30pm onwards reported on the day. Official Going changed to Soft after Race 3 with this Race 1. Going Stick reading from 07:00am. Stiff to Strong Easterly Wind expected to have developed by race time = Half Tailwind from the left once out of the the Chute (Quarter before that).

Usual gender mix with 6 fillies and one male.

A persistent point but a notably slow time again and an Anticyclone has been stuck over the British Isles for going on 4 weeks now and similarly showery weather and temperatues in the mid-teens at best throughout that period. Heavy rain on the day and Hereford abandoned whilst Punchestown did not run their Chase events because of the high winds in Ireland. This period of weather began just after a drought was announced for most of Southern Britain and widespread hosepipe bans. Only thing you need a hosepipe for at present is pumping surplus rainwater away. This race 1.18s slower than any at the course in 2010-11 and this race usually run in just under 61s on GF. Only 3 times slower at the track since start 2004 with the equivalent race the slowest when run in 64.72s in SGS in 2005. But, note again the helpful strong part Tailwind today.

Poor form and Mad Jazz left with task of holding off Perfect Words in effect. MJ had needed niggling along plus hanging or getting unbalanced in previous two runs. Less of that here and ran more competently. Able to see out the most of the 5f at her pace which roved enough. Small with poor scope to develop. PW has always shown that he lacks a 'kick' or even much of a forward effort in later races in his previous runs. Just lacking the power to show any CoP at all. But, he has looked basically willing in previous runs including on his last effort on soft uphill where he ran from a poor draw. Sat in behind the leading 3 here then pulled out to try to get by the only one of those 3 to finish the race off to any worthwhile standard. Made around 1L back on MJ before stalling and seemed to be going backwards a bit by the line. Which is a regression because in previous races he has looked willing and like he would stay further at his single pace. Which would mean he might win a bad 7f seller or something. But not as obviously willing here when asked to progress (soft ground downhill?) and not plugging on at the finish. The second male in recent seasons Channon has run in the race and he let the last one go and it had never won

STYD one of the few 2yos Evans has this year and running in a race he targets. Ran competently and presumably showed just what she is capable of. But, small even in this group and fading in the final furlong. Below OR45 in the long view.

Red Koko a 'grim fascination' type at a low level. Bigger than the winner and has shown more pace than MJ in both races they have met. RK seems only to stay about 3.5f at present which means she is going to have to develop or run better on firmer going (she shows some knee action) to win. See how that goes for interest.

Midgley pair both got a little adrift of the leaders and then plugged on into the faders without showing anything. SLass to small. slow & green and no interest. MGem got a little unsettled in the stalls but got away with the others but then lost ground before halfway either by being too slow or unwilling so no interest.

Amourous has appeared to receive mild support in both runs and got unsettled in the stalls both times. Here she rared mildly a couple of times and a slow break and then did not pick up straight. Again losing ground and hanging as soon as she was put under any pressure.
