SUMMARY
Weather up to the 20s degrees Celcius the previous week but 4 degrees for this race with a strong NW wind. Snow and storms overnight in the North of Britain. Wind a Direct Tailwind in the Back Straight and Direct Headwind in the Home Straight.

Notably slow time and only one slower race in 2010-11. Last years Zippy winner did 63.48 carrying 1lbs more. Interesting point would be how much, and which way, the wind made a difference to this time.

Jamnean fractious on jock-up in the Parade Ring. Started bucking when jockey got on and unseated him third go and knocked one of the handlers over. Windsor Rose was already jocked-up and two horses behind with this happening. WR then started to buck and ran past the Jamnean pile to unseat the jockey as she avoided the rail.

David Evans interviewed before the race and said Dreamy Ciara had been drawn wide at KTNA and had got a bump early and this had got her behind. He said she was probably a 6f filly but was a good size for £1,000 and would be ok here from a better draw and staying on at the end. He said STYDrop was very small.

Mark Brisbourne interviewed post-race and seemed happy enough with WRose. Said she was 'tardy' starting and had probably not lost much ground on the first two after that. He said he had done as much as he could with her at home so why not give her experience in a small field race like this. Note WR's half sister was also fizzy & well beaten FTO in April in 2011.

First pass view of the race would be that is was 'Empty' in the sense of there not being a Zippy 5f Natural in the newcomers. The best of the newcomers was Jamnean in 3rd throughout and the only one to keep tabs on the front two for any period. Which would fit with the model since she represented the only trainer with a debut here who had his runners mostly ready FTO other than Evans' tiny second string who was dismissable on size grounds. Other FTO fillies flopping about unable to get involved in various ways. With DC allowed an easy lead on the rail after being niggled to get going she was always going to set a solid target to get past because she was not going to stop over 5f in the last 1. PPrincess had looked less than speedy in a grinding out 3rd on debut and running wider in the straight manged to overlap the winner and going a similar pace but, while also not stopping, just plugging on. Pictures from KTNA show DC a much taller filly than PP although narrow bodied. But, PP small and lightly made and beaten by a bigger filly she gave a start to. With Jamnean losing touch into the home straight and fading it was 6L back to the 3rd. PP probably suspect but DC the sort Evans will find at least one more win for and she will stay further. Worth noting this was a rare STO win off a break less than 8 days for Evans although his STO record in April is typically very strong. Another hint that this was an empty race where he cound get a short-break STO win because there was nothing even mildly talented in the field.

Finally twigged it moment in that trainer Jo Hughes is Paul Blockley's partner so you could read his name for how the horses are pepared and placed which makes more sense. You might wonder why Blockley doesn't hold the licence in his own name after Roger Curtis then Pat Murphy fronted up for him after his latest bout of being warned off. Perhaps he has not got the licence back yet, perhaps having another name on the stable yard saves having to change things when he trangresses, again.
