SUMMARY
GSG by Race Time. GS from G on Decs but S for the previous day's Meeting. Inner HS in use and no report of any extra distance on BHA Going Report page. .

First 7f Maiden of the season and later than usual start. Seemed to be run with and average and usable pace although the pace wound a bit soon after 3f out which seemed to put enough pressure ont he lesser ones not to the race out fgully. A number having issues of some sort to make the fades earlier.

Archie looking a likeable yearling of medium size and solid build on the video on the Dascombe website and a positive on that. This not looking a strong race on profile depending upon where the random MaJo debuts finished up. Whisper from Dascombe's yard said that Archie was one of their better ones. Still seems a medium one and well put together. Moving comfortably through the race and could have won by further. Went through the race like a solid 80 one but how high can he go?

Medrano looking bigger in this field than on debut and another hint that the HYDK maiden he ran in FTO is useful form overall. Ran a bit free here but able to produce a solid effort and see the race out fully. Looked ok for 75 in context of this group.

Billy Slater green and set tough tasks first two runs not really handling the turns at CHES. Looking better her and handling the long bend ok at the leasser pace here. An ok effort in the last 2F+ here without looking full Open Maiden level but ok for 70+.

Ventriloquist would have been the 2nd string but wearing the 1st colouurs with Pasticcio an NR. A similar run to Billy Slater overall and looking a touch below Open Maiden level on size and how he finished the race off.

Oh dear, here we go again. Prince Frank Spencer making himself all too visible once more on Songye Having won on Ustinov earlier on the day with a deep hold-up ride he was at it again here. Determined to ensure that a draw next to the rail turned into a problem rather than a benefit (it can break either way depending on Run Style). Hauled Songye to the rear and then shuffled back further as the field collapsed onto the rail early on the bend and the horse getting unbalanced. Then, despite the horse not appearing to be doing anything much wrong holding him around the bend to the extent the horse started hanging RH.

Early in the HS Spencer seemed to be realising (very early for his normally slow working brain) that his horse was going well and it would need a miracle to find a route through hear the rail. So he started switching out wide. Either the horse got unbalanced or he got cut-up by Ventriloquist (just out of picture on the VT - because he was so far back)and losy another 1-2L. Songye still tanking along when he got to the outside but Spencer again losing another 1L not taking early enough action to go araound Ventriloquist (in the way again with his jockey getting a clear run in the HS by decisive, early action). Songye then moves up in the penultimate 1F to be 4th just over 1F out and then produces an effort which would vie with Archie's as the best on show. It gets him to 2nd but the earlier ground chucked away needlessly means he gets tired late on and drops back to 4th on the line. If Songye had been able to sit 2R somewhere, or even where BSlater did 2 Wide then Songye versus Archie should have been a good race in the last 2f. We didn't get to see it. Songye a bulky smaller one on VT pictures but seemed to show 80+ potential here.

MaJo does do some front-loading of better class ones in his earliest batch of runners at each race distance through the year. His first 7f runner in 2013 was Somewhat who won at Listed level at 2yo, for example. Somewhere in his first batch should be Open Maiden types and perhaps something better class. Freight Train seemed a possible here as favourite but the 'Random Factor' of how a MaJo FTO 2yo will perform was one show. Both his runners here seeming to have 'issues'. FTrain seemed mostly controled in front and should have finished the race off. But, on the VT pictures, he doesn't seem to be stretching out in front around 3F out and the others close up to him without much effort. He looks a bit scratchy in front from there on in and a big hang left when asked to make his final effort and an early fade. Solid size to be 75+ but why the movement issue?

Chadic at a long SP for MaJo and his work picture seems to show an ok sized one but looking like a slower galloper. On VRev here he looks medium at most and added to that was too green to compete and moving awkwardly for most of the HS, Incl one painful bit where he has his head fixed to one side and moving part sideways. 8f+ nursery developer?

Tansfeeq looked like a galloper on debut and up to 7f at the first chance. A bit sweaty in prelims but mostly settled int he race. Went from looking to be moving forward fince inside the last 3F to hanging left and head up around 2F out. Another looking like there was a movement issue or some other problem. Has the size to be 75+ but an early fade here meaning he needs to show he can put a full race together.

Alpine Affair small and overpowered and getting in his 3rd run to be able to run in Nurseries. Stardrifter looking a smaller than medium type. Also looked underdone in condition and entirely clueless if some of the problem wasn't his attitude to racing. Barely put two straight strides together in the HS and a very early fade after veering left at one point in the extended unbalanced period.
