=== Post Race ===

Field raced Centre then hung to Stands side last 2f. Guiltless ensuring at least an Average pace and pressing on after halfway. But, Guiltless small and gone by inside 1f out and walking home. Roundsman a medium length, ok deep and chinky one and able to cruise with Guiltless and a comfortable win. Just Fab fit enough and trying but only perhaps a size bigger than Guiltless and at least 2 sizes smaller than Roundsman.

Interesting Northern Maiden of the type that would be a Novice in 2016. A Godolphin winner here meant it was imperative for many jks to ensure their horse finished well back not to get their OR ruined by a simple lengths count back from the winner, no matter the pace of the race. Jks assisted here by Guiltless ensuring a solid enough pace in tesating conditions. Even so, a number of jk obviously trying to keep their horses well back from early on. This 'Two Races in One' set-up could well prove even more visible in 2016 when this sort of thin Northern Maiden might have two previous winners in rated 85 & 90. A good question over whether many trainers would even risk running in a race with those types or whether the strangling and Schooling in Public becomes even more visible/prevalent.

Interesting to check the development of three of the runners given the Two Races nature of this event and what the inactivity of 2 of the jks was hiding. Jk on the Fahey owned I'm Ready throwing away a chance of a prominent position early to sit inactive well back. The, successfully, managed to run into the back of other horses and get bloacked until into the last 1f. A laughable whip flap when clear then let the horse trundle hone. Travelled fine to past halfway and presumably can develop to win. Touched By Love a completely inactive jk and a the horse going forward a bit, relative to the average, in the last 2f despite looking a bit green and uncomfortable on the going.

Cartwright the obvious 'eyecatcher' in the race and the jk active throughout the race. Many of Prescott's 2yos, notably the 3yo handicap set-ups, look clueless on debut and you presume this is part of the Prescott plan. It ensures the horse finishes well back in maidens even if it has the physical size to be competitive to win. The jks often having to be inactive to ensure the ability doesn't get the horse too far forward in weak races. Jk Catlin even hauled in for that on a Prescott horse this season. Which probably surprised him beacuse he had given the same 'Schooling' ride many times and not been eunquired into by the Stewards. Cartwright story looking a bit different and despite being green and in the last pair early the jk very active throughout. Off the back in the penultimate pair after halfway and the jk using the whip early. Giving the impression the horse was unwilling and not just green. Horse finally going forward unasked to a staying on, if remote 5th. But, this an occasion where the 'Pass Through' (in HK terminology) might be useful. The camera stayed fixed on Roundsman around the CH as the horses pulled up and ignoring what every other horse was doing (something we have been brought up to accept in GB). The Cartwright pulls himself into the shot and has caught Roundsman by halfway around the bend and pulls up alongside him looking a similar chunky type if a touch shorter in height (?). Cartwright going to be targetted at winning a maiden or a 3yo develpment and try to keep his OR below 60?
