=== Pre Race ===

Race with an odd mix of quality over the past 3 seasons. The 3 winners have been Group winner Alhebayeb, Listed placed Excel's Beauty & Group placed Mubtaghaa (won the £300k Doncaster sales race & OR100+). The rest of those 3 fields have produced few subsequent winners and only 2-3 horses as real 70+ raters and only 1 other 75+ (ended season well beaten off OR77 as a Hannon rep). 2014 produced nothing other than Mugtaghaa. On profile this race appears to have the same wide spread of abilities with Captain Gerald and the four fillies looking lesser to poor types. But, there seems more depth than usual with the other 6 all having chances to be 75+ types. Not the 'empty otherwise' type of field.

Trainer Tate in 215 saying Adham had looked very good in early year but then had a 'minor setback' about 1 month before the interview for that book. Tate saying Adham had "shown plenty" and expected him to be a good 2yo.

Dhahmaan just a middling price at the premier Tatts Breeze sale. Breeze Video has no side-on Gather part and Dhahmaan already into the last 2f and up to speed when the Video begins. Untypical white face & socks for a 'Kodiac'. Looks a good medium size and solid build front and a bit of body length. Above average action speed but not looking a fast action and compact sprint type. A bit more reach and rolling along. Runs straight and rider has to do little other than encouragement to keep going and Dhahmaan finishes the breeze off. Looks a solid 75 and 6f better? Would expect him to be a positive in PRev so check how that goes. For eg - turn out to be smaller than current mental picture?

Beckett in 215 saying Sandahl had to be gelded because he was too fiery but the op has settled him down. Notes he has a high head carriage.

Something not right with the Breeze Video for Wilsons Ruby and jumps around only keeping the horse centre shot later on. WR looking in the gather a smaller medium one. Medium build and not deep bodied and a bit of body length. Neck a touch weak the the top. Looking a balanced and ready one and active but lacking some power and scope. For eg, should look very different to the compact, deep & bulky Kyllukey. Relaxed in the gather phase. Runs straight, not much KA and faster than average cadence. Presume a faster time making the £60k's worth and less than that price in PRev? Most expensive British Breeze buy for trainer Ellison and only had 2 x cheaper Breezers in 2012-14 period (both won at some point). Appears to be a new owner to the yard & 'Andy Barnes' signed to WR at the sales..

=== Post Race ===

Picture of the field coming to Halfway. Leading trio from rail out = Adham, Kyllukey & Ajaya. Number 4 behind is Dhahmaan with Wilsons Ruby (orange) wider out and Sandahl (light blue) hidden behind him. Chestnut on the rail (num 8) is the first of the fillies - Lady Joanna Vassa. B2yoR helicopter in the background.

Worth recording the Headwind as very noticeable and gusty. Note how Dhahmaan is sitting balanced in 2R behind the leading trio and sheltered to some extent.

Looking at the way Kyllukey drifted in the Market and given the trainer's comments after LTO about a 'growing phase' and gone weak then why was Kyllukey here? One answer might be he was here to get his 3rd run in for a handicap mark and presumably now put him away for nurseries and hope he has strengthened up by then? Probably estimate he is going to get a mark of 74-5 and check how that goes. Might be a later season developer type for the trainer (long time MO). Would look ok off those sort of nursery levels with normal development. Travelled ok again here and found a bit more at 2f out than at SALS but still not reaching out and finding a real kick.

Rain in the morning, cool with a stiff breeze. Most of the horses in rugs for a lot of the time so PRev difficult. The 4 x fillies turning up very late or not at all (Memyselfie on the mobile with all the others in the PRing presumably asking where his filly was. Difficult to get a proper handle on the ability levels but, as seemed likely on Profile, a btter set of 70+ candidates than usual as well as the typical huge spread of ability for the race.

Seemed a mixed or building pace. Just and average pace for 1f+ with field still widespread across the course. Jk Doyle never able to fully get on top of the free running Adham and that increased the pace before halfway to put the lesser ones under pressure, spread the field lengthways and allow the grouping to form up visible in the picture. Pace a bit too strong for the conditions and only the first two home finishing the race off. Lesser ones gone by 1f out.

Dhahmaan just medium height in the group and lenghtier body type as his VP picture shows. But well built and quite powerful behind. Relaxed and mature attitude. Niggled along at times around halfway and resonding ok. Veered out left when pulled out to make progress in the last 1f+ with 2 of the 3 leaders fading back onto him. A bit unbalanced in the last 1f until getting going fully last 0.5f, Going on at finish and 6f ok. Say 78-83 range.

Ajaya a short price and trainer Haggas does know how good his 2yos are to a good level before they run. Usually books a top jk for the better ones but Cosgrove riding as he did on Tutu Nguru (FTO winner) earlier in the week. Haggas actively trying to upgrade his string and record. FTO wins increasing in number but early season ones still seem to mean a useful 2yo more often than not. His first 2yo win in 2014 was Adaay FTO who won the 3yo Group 2 (beating Limato) over this weeked. Ajaya his 6th Debut of the season and 3 of the previous 5 have won FTO with 2 looking very good - Besharah (runs STO at WDSR on Mon after this) & War Department (Coventry bound)

Ajaya a smaller medium one in this group and lacking a bit of power. Look at his VP picyure and you could say it may well be his movement that is improving him. Using himself well and a good reach/range showing in front. But, Queally looking a bit 'big' on him. Deep enough and probably ok power and neatly made. Deserves extra credit for pulling early in race then doing comfortably best of the leading trio. Appears to have something raising him above the OR80, say level. Ok for 85+.

Adham looking a bigger one in the group when all rugged although another with some length and not just a compact 5f sprinter. Ran too freely and got tired because of that. Seems fine for 75+ and check again for 80+.

Not convinced by Sandahl who walked around with a permanent puzzled look on his face. Not resenting having to do this but not welcoming, nor throwing himself into the experience either. Another one to look as if he has a bit of length with the rug on but medium build in context. Perhaps 70ish and inclined to watch what he can do STO rather than anything active. Will Beckett drop him to a lesser track/maiden?

Wilsons Ruby seems to have strengthened up since his breeze but a bit smaller and neater than the better ones here. Fit enough but a touch stary in the prelims then running with his head to the right throughout the race. Hanging left and not picking up intot he last 2f then unbalanced and losing ground. Ellison will win something with him but you would think it would be by going further North and a weaker maiden. Say 70ish is everything got fixed.

We all probably have better ways to use the time left to us on this earth than pondering too much over the last 5 home. Memyselfie underpowered and smaller for £35k and wouldn't we all love some of Mr Johnson's money to waste. Lady Joanna Vassa the expensive end of Guest's 2yos and weill turned out. Showed some pace before a fade and usable lower 60s? Captain Gerald small and compact and lacking power behind. Not fit and an ok buy for 1.5k and might be usable in a nursery low 50s.

Mick Easterby's pair very different types with Pink Ice small and ok neat but underpowered. Tutill taller and tallish in the group. But lacking body length to go with it and awkwardly made. Front heavy and lacking power behind. See if she can develop to seller level and whether she runs in the Rous seller.
