SUMMARY
[Update] Going changed from GS after race 1 (this one) and to SOFT after race 2. The local report was that these changes occurred after showers and not persistent rain. Other local reports that Ripon had rain and a wet day on Monday and surprising to many that the ground was officially GOOD at the start of the meeting. The GStick reported as being faulty. Usual nonsense it would appear when you let CoCs make it up as they go along using their own methods at every course rather than some formal process supported by simple measuring and reporting tools & standards. Hopefully the generation of CoCs using sticks, heels and Jack Russells to do the Going report will be replaced by a new generation who have been through proper courses and not the Army, or whatever. G as on Decs in early am.

Strong WSW Wind = 1/4 Tailwind from the left.

=== Pre Race ===

Jks for Easterby = Allan (Zeeda) & Fentiman (Bossipop).

Breeze Video for Just A Groove shows a smaller ready sprinter with some length. Little scope but complete and together Now. Runs in centre track and mostly straight. Just above average cadence but a touch high action in front. Does find a bit later on after changing lead. Picture on Duffield website, presumably from soon after the breeze sale, making him look smaller and overtrained. Very fit and lean, bit of body length and just average power behind. Looking like assessing his size will tell you what he is because he is a fixed 'type' otherwise.

Man Of Time sold cheaply at the lesser Tatts Breeze sale. MOT sold also as a foal & 1yo and for a bit more ach time but a lot less than development & keep costs. There is an interesting article to be done about the (presumed) increase in the average number of times 2yos have been through sales before they run. The number with 3-4 appearances feels like it has increased and there are more Breeze sales now than 5-10 years ago. This feels like a version of the frantic trading of Stocks etc in the financial world. Where the average duration a stock is held by a buyer has collapsed over the last 30 years and the number of trades per day/year etc exploded. All those people thinking they know better than the Market price and more opportunities to buy/sell but with the same number of horses in the thoroughbred case. How does that all actually work to allow someone to think they can make a consistent 'profit'. In the economic world the only answer appears to be 'inside knowledge'. What is the equivalent in TB sales?

Man Of Time by a sire who did well with his 1st crop and his record will presumably pick up again with his 4th. MOT a medium barrel body with middling depth. Ok stron in front. Looks balanced and hopping along ok in the gather. The 14k price probably because he is smalle, if with ok build. He probably does a slower breeze too despite a faster action. Doesn't use much range and starting to break up and fade before the end of the breeze. Would expect him to look hard fit for FTO but size limited.

Cranberry Park cheaply bought at DBU in a private sale. Ellison bought a 60ish winner at the sale in 2014 for £5k. Breeze Video shows CP running down the stands rail initially. Looks smaller and notably lengthy and not like a 5f sprinter. Shows a slower cadence and not using much range with some KA. Presume a slow breeze and going slowly along the rail then drifting left. Hangs left to centre track after 1f, perhaps pricks ears, and time seems to stop briefly with nothing happening. Then carries on with hiw long-bodied scuttling. More size than £9 suggests and not a rabbit (similar with the £5k buy in 2015) but lookign too slow for 5f and might be slow overall unless he was just very green at the sale. A development project for nurseries and presume will go up in race distance.

Jk McDonald interviewed at length before race (so ATR didn't have to do any BTON 2yo coverage), and said Just A Groove had been to RIPN before to work with My Amigo (won FTO at NEWC, staying on). That in between a blizzard of over gushing 'terrific - marvellous' statements lobbed at him in the guise of questions by Captain Cliche.

=== Post Race ===

Dry when horses in PRing, shower begun by time race run.

Looked an improved effort by Fashionable Spirit, looking at least 1/2 Class Level above those behind, FS ran well on debut when not seeing the 5f out. Had no chance to see out the extended 5f at CHES racing 1 off the rail on softer going in the Lily Agnes. Ran well for 4f of her last race at SDWN (uphill course) but going too freely. Still made a forward move to contest with Kassia until wobbling around 1f out and fading early. That looked like an issue and MaJo in interview after the race said he thought she 'jinked' 1f out at SDWN and expected her to come back lame (she wasn't). FS effort today in line with what she can do running a controlled race against lesser opposition and seeing the 5f out. Which ought to be 70s of some sort and up the current rating level for her a bit on the strongish finish here.

[June 11th = Palpitation a poor effort and looking smaller than the average here. Ok Break and settled fine in 2R after 1f. But driven or niggled along for much of the last 4f and losing ground in stages adding hanging right to a general look of not handling the track and/or weather & going conditions. Not promising for 70+ on this. ]

[June 13th] Just A Groove looking smaller medium. Given an attacking ride for FTO and on the rail inside the winner after 1.5f with the others further back. Hard pressed to make a lower level effort before 2f out and stalling and fading in a typical manner from 1.5f out.
