=== Post Race ===

Immediate post race thoughts of how similar this race was in shape to some of the earlier 2yo events. Field spread all across the track and splitting into 2 groups and those 2 groups going very different paces. Hughes on Illuminate afterwards saying he was "20 lengths" back at halfway. Some exaggeration for effect but you know what he means. The Far Side group taken along by the tearaway Laxfield Road ridden by Dettori. That filly 5L clear of the reast of her group after 1f and the stands side runners even further back. The stands side group driting across to merge with the Far Side group later on. Interesting to see where the fornt 3 were at Halfway but with Spencer's Ashadihan in 2nd you have a clue. Did Fireglow come from last in her group to get to a volunteer 4th?

'Gate Speed', etc, is all very well but you wonder whether trainer Ward and his jks might adapt the style a bit for uphill at ASCT. Watch the US videos of the wins by the Ward pair and Laxfield Road blitzs over 4.5f flat Dirt arond a bend and going on ok at the finish (what quality behind). Back At The Ranch looks untypical in her win and takes forever to finally run down a tearaway leader over 5f. Looking as if she lacks any of the Ward early speed and more a grinder needing further. Ward said before the start that Laxfield Road would lead but surely you have to say to Dettori that "Lead" can mean by 1L going a touch within yourself and not going as hard as possible. LRoad stopping to a walk around 2F out and seeming to have dragged her group along too fast even though they were 5L+ back of her.

3rd winner of the meeting for new sire Zoffany and matching the result for New Approach in his first year. Initial view of the Zoffanys is that he is getting a good number of bulky ones with some size and not just ready types. Illuminate a bit untypical in that being strong enough she is a bit more lightly made and rangy. Good, efficient, movement sealing the ability deal. Hughes after the race saying she did not move like a sprinter and seemed upbeat, without wanting to tip into hubris, that she would stay 8f and develop to 3yo. Hughes also taking a good-natured swipe at the "Hannon's runners never stay 8f+" perception along the way.
