SUMMARY
GF early am as on Decs. Watering as 16mm applied Thu-Fri period. 16mm??.

Stiff to Medium ENE Wind = unusual Direction and 3/4+ Tailwind. This would normally give faster times but who knows after 16mm of watering.

Second Wild Pace War in two Days. At BATH the previous evening a Dascombe Newcomer hooked up with an Evans newcomer & MaJo STO to produce a stupidly fast pace, in fast conditions. That reduced the leading 3 to a walk by 1f out and the Dascombe FTO finishing well back. The very fit Evans necomer managed to survive the Pace War best to win and assisted by the fact that the prospective Closers were so limited.

Similar set-up here and probably an even more stupid Pace War given the better quality of the horses left behind, how far they were back at Halfway and how much ground they made back. Fresh Arugula & Raj To Riches hooking up as a Leading Pair and pressing on to have the field spread over 12L+ and the winner - Sir Dudley - 6L+ back in 4th and hard driven and unable to keep up. The Dascombe newcomer expired totally again as did the Hannon newcomer who tried to chase the Leading Pair and 3rd through Halfway. The hard fit Evans' STO survived the pace war 'best' (still tired and rolling around in the last 1f) but lost between 6L to 9L+ to the 1st & 3rd-5th finishers which are very big numbers in a 5f race on fast going.

Someone should ask Jks Kingscote and Bates (A3) what they were playing at. Raj To Riches has now run himself bandy in two races in 5 days and won neither of them because of poor rides. All this after Evans son made such a point in the prelims of trying to keep some sort of lid on RTR's natural exuberance. He had been dancing in the prelims at WDSR and too fizzy. Here, Evans jnr. brought RTR out of the stables (1/4 mile+ walk from the Parade Ring) already saddled and, instead of walking across with the others, put RTR back in the horsebox. He then drove the horsebox across the course inner road and parked up near the PRing and waited for all the other horses to mostly get ready and out of the way. He then ensured RTR went to post first well ahead of the others. Then the Jk puts his foot on the 'Loud Pedal' as hard as he could. Hmmm.

=== Post VRev ===

Race as Broken as it seemed on First View and you could run int again with an average Pace and get a very different Final Result. Can split the field into 3 types = Type A the pair that hooked up and steamed off down the rail, Upping the pace Around halfway and going too hard. RTT & FAru both stalling and fading very early and might well have been 1st & 2nd home in some order if the Pace had been usable. Type B where the pair who were knowing enough to get to 2R on the rail behind the pressing leaders. SirD & Gittan both getting outpaced by the leaders before Halfway for different reasons and in the 'best' place to be the Closers to pick-up-the-pieces when the Leading Pair folded back. Note that both lost Ground to all 3 of the Type Cs in the last 1.5f. Type C = the 3 who were some mix of too clueless and not acting on the firm ground to keep up to Halfway. Those 3 all well adrift at Halfway and in a normal Paced race they either would not have been seen again of would have had to make a 'different' effort to get back into the picture in the last 1f. The Pace so strong here that Riflescope, Caitie & Seastrom ended up finishing together in 3rd-5th only 2-3L back from the winners and having overtaken two of those who were nearer the Pace setting. A race where the Pace and relative Readiness/Nous meant the abilities were mixed up at the finish and not a true reflection of the relative Class levels. Having said that the 7 probably not covering that wide a spread of abilities and ranging from usable 60s into ok 70s and some umming/aahing over whether any might leak into real 80+.

Sir Dudley not a 5f pedigree but looks an compact sprinter in shape. Smaller, compact body but ok deep and strong within the size he has. But, looking a ready 2yo and lacking scope and hard to see him growing much or changing shape. Probably just strengthen through the season. Which means he seems Size Limited to some extent. Come across as the sort who will be competing in nurseries in later season somewhere in the OR72-6 range and with his lack of scope taking him downwards relatively. Won over 5f here but did not have the pace to keep up with the first 3 through halfway. Partly because he was offerring to, or actually, hanging left for much of the race (did it FTO) withhis head to the right. Able to plug on at a low level to win as the leaders gor tired but hasn't really show 5f pace yet. May be more a 6f+ as his pedigree suggests but his size/shape not aiding that. Is going to need to find a below average race to win again.

Raj To Riches a typical hard fit, Now, 2yo and lightly made and a bit narrow (entirely different type & shape to SirD, for eg). Has some basic pace but looks around 70 type and perhaps upper 60s later as he seems unlikely to bulk up much. Evans presumably knows this and has done his bet to get RTR fully ready in early season to win a Maiden NOW. The fizziness of the horse, and being taken on here, has led to the horse going too fast in both races and mugged by a mid-70s one late one (whjo could not keep up mid-race). Evans will keep running him until he wins and might well win a 2nd race through persistance.

Riflescope another in the field with a non-5f pedigree who you would think would be a 7f+ one. But, another shorter, deep bodied, sprinter type to look at. Compare him to SirD and a bit more body length and a bit bigger and stronger all round. Looking to have more scope to develop through the season. A bit green in the prelims but calm. Green in the race and probably finding the ground too lively and also the pace. Able to plug on HnH solidly in the last 2f. Has the strength to be 75+ (leak 80?) but did not look likely to be one a fast 5f here. Might need (wait for) 6f to win and has some scope.

Seastrom the 4th debut for Appleby and, in being 4th, has run the 'best' to date. Since he was 11L off the lead at Halfway flopping about then clearly that is a suspect 'Best'. Too green to get start and run with the others as the 3 x previous Godolphin runners have been. Like Riflescope & Caitie able to get back into the picture by raising more organistion in the last 1.5f+ and plugging on HnH without ever being near to competing in the race. Looking a bit raw physically and with a relaxed but sloppy attitude in the prelims. Too underprepared and they need to know enough to look after themselves FTO Charlie (talk to Hannon about it). Cost 425k but a lot of that his dam's racecourse ability and just a medium one. Not as sprintery as SirD/Riflescope and Seastrom looks a mix of his sprinter shaps Sire and his taller, leggy and slightly narrow dam. Showed a KA as he plugged on. looks as if he needs time to develop physically and should be ok 75 and can develop above that but not an obvious better type.

Caitie the only filly in the field and not that fit and another not mentally sharp. Green so got well behind and another to be able to just plug on back to 5th without ever being in the race. Might not even be 70 and not one to follow but check how she develops.

Gittan a bit bigger than SirD, with more body length and less pure 5f shape. Better built and should be better 6f. Too relaxed here and not race fit. In line with the Hannon prep her knew enough FTO to at least hang onto the pace for 3f before seeing the leading pair make 2L+ on him as thye upped the pace after 2f (suicidal). Given his fitness level Gittan paid for chasing the pace with an early fade. A smaller medium one and not a better looking/sized Hannon model (as the [Prf] part expected). Should be ok75 and see how he develops 6f & nurseries

Fresh Arugula's yearling picture on the Dascombe website shows him stood int he snow looking narrow and underpowered. Not 55k's worth. In a field with some bulkier sprint types he still looked a bit narrow and lacking power here and not that neatly made. Also trudging around in the prelims looking lethargic or overawed. The sire seems to get narrow ones with more zip than expected. On the PRev he was crossed off the possibles List early. Since he finished last that might seem fine but the way FA zipped along in the lead putting RTR under pressure around Halfway was out of line with the PRev view. With hindsight he has a bit more bulk than RTR so the Leading pair here might have amounted to an OR73 one knocking heads with and OR69 one (on STO). FA not looking Open Maiden class and anothe OR70+ one which will need to find a a sub-75 race to win before he goes to nurseries.
