SUMMARY
Rail Fully in. Race Distance as Advertised.

Strong- Westerly Wind = Mostly Helpful until turn into the HS. 1/4 Headwind from Left last 1.5f+.

=== Pre Race ===

An Duine Uasal made his debut on March 29th in a 5f maiden at the CURR. Finished 7th of 11 having led and about 1.5L behind Taexali who has won at BTO (looking 72-74 complete now type with snap). Yielding to Soft ground and raining. ADU getting a quick break near to the rail and leading early and XF then settled the pace (wearing an XNB). Seemed to set a usable pace but conditions probably quite testing. Had the field stacked wide and behind coming to 2f out and made an ok effort. Still leading towards 1f out but duelling with Taexali and looking a similar size. 3rd into the last 150m but getting tired and caught by a variety of closers out wide on course.

ADU won a 5f maiden at CORK STO on April 20th in a 6 runner field. Again broke well and settled in 2nd 1 wide of the leader in a pair. Still wearing his XNB and with his head held to the left overall again (built that way or how his fixes his head against being held by the Jk?). Did not look a strong field with one horse adrift and two others, including the leader he attended looking small. Got 1L clear of the small leader but hanging right and an ok to so-so kick. With Mint Chai running green only one other to beat in Love Is All Around running wide on the track. None of the other 5 runners has run since.

=== 1st View ===

First two clear at Finish and presumably an example of what happens when the best two horses in the race (for the day) get the most efficient runs through the race. Rah Rah a slightly quicker break from stall two and able to squeeze Silver Wings back so he had to sit 2R on the rail. Fashionable Spirit getting to sit 2nd 1 off the rail (riding shotgun for her stablemate) and ensuring others either had to come wide or accept the pace set by Rah Rah. An Duine Uasal the only other to be able to go the pace and running two wide of the rail which is SuiCide. Rah Rah headed in the last 1f but outstayed Silver Wings who was fading back close to the line.

Jk Norton saying the ground was riding proper Soft after the race.

=== Post VRev ===

A race which often has lmited future significance and a run in this the highlight of some of their careers. The last 3 runnings have produced no susbsequent winners above Open Maiden or middling nursery level. With the first two home clear here any chance they are a bit better than normal? To which the answer would be 'No' and the gap back to the others caused by a mix of them being 70s types and worse and not sure how many are Open Maiden quality, along with the first 2 home running prominently on the rail. Getting the most efficient path through the race.

When MaJo won this race with Mukhmal in 2014 that horse seemed to show a bit of extra zip in his first two runs and might have been better. He was 2nd in a Listed race later and 4th in a Group one. But he has been beaten twice off OR98 & 96 at 3yo so far and his best Timefirgure at 2yo in the lower 80s. Seemed like he was an OR88er type and precocious that gets an extra 14 added to his real Class Level because of that.

Rah Rah feels like another of the same sort and has not shown the same zip as Mukhamal so far. Ran on the rail in the lead and mostly settled apart from when stablemate FS joined her after 1f going too free. You wonder what Jk Norton said to de Sousa on FS soon after as FS risked kicking RR off. Norton raising the pace around haflway anyway and strecthing the field out and RR 1.5L clear into the HS. Headed by SW but responding and outstaying. Looking an Ok Size in this group if a bit narrow front. Ok power behin. But, that will leave her short in better races and you presume she will try Listed/Group events but not up to that level on this.

Silver Wings running for Evans who has had many horses run well in this thanks to hot-housed fitness early. SW a bit better than the usual smaller or narrow ones but looking a Nursery type and around 77-82 as a 2yo and lacking scope. Did not see this extended 5f out in these conditions and could not go with the kick RR made before 2F out and lost 1.5L to her.

Fashionable Spirit a smaller one and a ready sprinter. Ran a bit too free overall and in Lane 1. Faded because of that but looking a 70s handicapper lacking scope and more 70-74 range than proper Open Maiden range.

In Haste small but solidly built. Wide draw and a slower start. Then got shuffled back at various points. Stayed on ok in the last 2f through faders and those not handling the track but never in the race. Made places and some VTLs but seemed of minor worth in this set-up. Nothing to change the view of 70ish or a bit under.

Thee And Me in good condition and more build than expected. But, a smaller medium and limited by that. Had to drop in after being wide in the first 2f and Jk While looking out-of-place again on a technical track like this and a passenger. Which was a problem because TAM probably not handling the tight turns and needed a competent jk to sit tight. But, a moderate effort wnyway and 60s.

Nag's Wag a slow start from a wide draw then running to freely and pulling herself forward wide of the bend. Poor effort because of that. Ok build if a bit too compact and later 60s but feels as if she still has some potential.

Astley Hall's debut win at RDCR felt baffling at the time. The 'Story' did not fit together. Here was a small to smaller SH running green and free and still doing best of the prominent racers and winning a bit comfortably. He looks 60s and that not fitting with the apparent race shape. The 4th from that race has won a moderate Auction race since and bigger than AH. The 2nd has placed in a similar race and the 4th (the biggest in that field) has run very well in a stronger maiden. But for the niggles over Size then that sounds like an ok prospect here for Fahey with Ryan Moore riding. But, looking smaller here (less strong than NW for eg) and 4/1 and only 3rd favourite. Slow start again and ended up 3R on the rail but outpaced by the bigger types in the 2nd half of the race and a bit out-of-place. The debut win seems misleading and a race that mixed the abilities up.

City Of Stars looking like he found a straight 5f too fast a test FTO and had to be regularly chivvied along which like a mix of green and lack of pace. Not a Profile to go well here even on easier ground unless he was staying on late after a Pace War. Slow start from the widest draw and driven along for most of the race and taking a long time to get back onto the group after being adrift after 0.5f. The 'Excuse' take would be a wide drawn and not handling the track. But, looking a bit more than that and added to his FTO efforts looking like he has some sort of attitude issue. Even given that seems likely the take on his first run as sold 75+ might be incorrect anyway. In the 'suspect' pile at present for two reasons.

An Duine Uasal led both his previous runs but going forward freely meant he ran 2 Wide here which wont work. Ran ok given that although the fade in the last 1f a bit more than expected. Medium sized but build and shaped tails away behind rather oddly. Can do better but looking a 70s one.

Stewards' Enquiry text = "The Stewards considered the running of ASTLEY HALL, ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Richard Fahey, which finished seventh. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the colt’s performance. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.".
