=== Pre Race ===

Sires' Median Auction race and this field looking lower quality overall on Profile.

Grainy Picture of the field at Halfway. 1st two Home in the Leading pair with Kept Under Wraps on the rail and Lil's Joy outside her.

=== Post VRev ===

The type of race that can at times produce a better filly but mixed in amongst the usual level sub-75 types. Last 3 years demonstrate the variability in Quality. in 2014 a field of ten saw the winner go on to look too high in handicaps off OR75 and only two subsequent winners in the field, both for major trainers. The runner-up went on to race OR90+ and place in a moderate Group 3. Behind them one other Auction race winner who was unplaced off OR78 last run.

Similar split in 2013 with the winner a narrow looking filly for Fahey (relevant to Kept Under Wraps) in Sandiva. She won a French Gp3 at 2yo, a British one early season 3yo and is currently in the US showing that an OR100 filly can compete in Grade 1/2s on turf over there. Her runner up rated OR90+ at 2yo but the rest of the field moderate to poor. The 2012 was a mostly lower level affair with the winner struggling off OR73 at season end. But, there was a good one hidden away in the ruck with Supersprint & Listed Redcar Trophy victress Body And Soul. She had looked a 'stroppy madam' in the prelims at NOTT.

Worth looking back across the 3 years because it shows there was one Group/Listed winner in each edition and two other fillies who rated highly at 2yo. But, mixed in with a lot of sub-75 types and not always getting to the front. A good reminder that these sort of Sires' Median Auction races can produce the best ones from 'lesser' sires and the early season timing of this race seems to attract them. Which seems partl because being a 'Good One' can look like being precocious in Work Gallops because that individual will do the standard Work for 2yos looking comfortable even if they are not particularly precocious. A key question is whether there were any better types in this field or a lesser edition overall.

Average to slower pace with a 1.5f sprint tacked on the end. Little change in positions from Halfway to the finish with Swirral Edge dropping from 6th to 8th but finished lame which could explain that fully. Plus, Tawwaaq making some mild progress from 3R rail. Leading pair at Halfway pulled away from the others and that seemed a mix of reasons. They were the fittest and most competent and ran closest to the rail in the last 2f. Pulling, greenery and running away from the rail partly hindering the others with the PRev needing to be factored in to place the leading two on the OR range and check if there was a usable filly well back in the ruck. Not that the Tailwind a real factor on the day.

A tricky day for Paddock Reviewing with heavy rain, the fillies mostly rugged and hard to get representative pictures to jog the memory. Also tricky if you have the Shadow of misplacing Sandiva hanging over you and not thinking Parsley was better than a 70s one. Keep reminding yourself you did spot Body And Soul and Sandiva's 90+ rated runner-up.

Which meant the first filly seen being Kept Under Wraps (above left) had you feeling a bit twitchy. Blimey, shes a lightly made and narrow one being the first thought. Lack of power and limited by that and lower 60s? The thoughts of light framed fillies who have proved better than the apparent power (for some period) reminds you to keep thinking and check the initial impression when rugged. This is a Fahey one. As she walks by and away then two positives show up. Firstly she is notably fit FTO, not hard given her build. Also, she is notably mature and relaxed and walking along with the Lass calmll (the Lass looks relaxed in the picture and alowing a length of rein. Not hanging on to a twitchy or nervous one, for example. Equally KUW is alert and taking it all in, not slobbing around. A bit leggy and body a bit shallow but she moves ok with some snap. You decide to up the view of her a bit. She is tall, if underpowered and looks ready to run to her best today. She sets a standard, say around 70, and use her level to compare to the others and look for something with more bulk and power.

How the race played out then makes a question over whther the '70' take is correct. She did lead the field competently & comfortably and pull clear with a STO filly, having been backed to favourite. Tough call. Cannot let the lack of power go and, ok, she is a 70s Nursery type and no Sandiva. Live with that for a moment.

Other than KUW hard to get a full handle on the others with the rain, rugs and testing conditions.

Lil's Joy in better condition than on debut and a bit more bulk than KUW and almost as tall. Ran competently and pulled clear with KUW. Say another around 70 and sub Open Maiden level.

Andalusite and entirely different type and shape to KUW. Got on her toes in the prelims and warm enough for the rug to come off. A smaller one with a bit more build but a touch too long and not looking 'together', Outpaced by the other pair in the last 2f and moving short in front. Looks a development project for nurseries and around 60.

Tawwaaq the most obvious candidate for a bigger and ready one. Varian normally gets solid debuts and starts some good ones early. But, looking more closer back at his record now he also starts some duff ones early. The first look at her a negative (to right of KUW above). Small, a bit compact and leggy behind. Also looking green and not sharp mentally. Smaller frame than KUW and just middling build. KUW now looking more like the standard for the day. Pictures of Tawwaaq saddled and TP make her look small but with a bit more bulk than with rug on. Too green to get involved in the race, not helped by inactive Hanagan, and an early fade. Should be usable 60s but size limied.

Sophistica with no work gallop videos available. About halfway between KUW & Tawwaaq in Size, Build, Body length. Smaller Medium but somewhat narrow & middling body length. Fizzy in the prelims and too free in the race so hard to judge her on that. Seems to move ok but the picture of her on the way to the post makes her look young and a bit dinky. Channon squeezes the best out of this type & 65?

Its A Sheila Thing quite neatly made and moves ok but came across and on the smaller side and a bit underpowered in the race. Check if usable 50s.

Cara's Muse not really judged in PRev and heavily rugged. Did not really make any impression and smaller to smaller medium size but netaly made and built otherwise. Similar in the race and travelled ok mid race after a slow start. Some effort in the last 2f until the expected fade. Needs a further check and niggling thought she might be usable.

Swirral Edge a smaller one in this group and lacking scope. Raises further question over the quality of the field that Gifted Master beat FTO (Haughmond aside). Vet reported SE lame after the race and if you watch the race with that knowledge you get the impression the horse was feeling a problem from the start. Jk having to be active throughout and SE never going forward. Jk eventually lets in go when adrift into the last 1f. Lowe 60s?
