SUMMARY
G as on decs in early am an G for the 1st 2 days of the meeting. Watering to maintain Good but no details given. Watering to maintain G going??

== Pre Race ===

Big Sky's last work video from 17th May working with Modest and 60s 3yo filly Tarando as a lead horse. Modest declared twice but WD after problems at the stalls on May 8th at WDSR then an NR on May 21st at SDWN because of GF going. That pair of fillies' maidens plus this one would count as upper level/qual races to start in. BS going clear with Modest on the uphill part as the vid begins. BS similar size & going as well as Modest and more controlled and less pulling. Unstressed work. Prob Spencer on Modest.

== Post Race Summary ===

One of many maidens with a mixed quality history. Early 6f event and a good starting point for a good filly aiming at Royal Ascot a possibility. Go back to 2002 and the first winner of the newly inaugurated Albany Stakes at the Royal Meeting had won this race on debut at 33/1 (Pearl Dance for Gosden & the type of PRev call you never forget) beating a mixed bunch including 2 x Hannon season winners and a 5f Listed victress. In 2014 a weak field with no subsequent winners and the Hannon rep a maiden off OR75 in late season. 2013 very bipolar with group winners Kiyoshi (Albany) & Ihtimal (May Hill) miles clear. Sky Lantern a winner in a small field in 2012 & Group placed at 2yo and a multiple Group 1 winner 3yo+.

This looking a lesser quality edition on profile and the PRev & race seemed to confirm that. More a question of whether it will produce a subsequent Open maiden winner at all rather than looking for anything better. Hannon stable a bit behind with quality so far in 2015 although still a 20% SR to race 102. Bournemouth Belle looking an ordinary mid 70s type on debut in a race which also raised the "will it produce much?" question. BB and odd lengthy body shape and a bit narrow. Not a typical Hannon stronger sprinter type. Able to win here by being competent and finishing zip perhaps suggesting she might get 78-82 level rating but not one to follow as such. [Update May 27th - Hannon quote from April in Taplin's book = "..not the prettiest but one of the best movers i've seen.... a cracker... when they see her in the Parade Ring people wont back her but she's some mover.". Suggesting the 'finishing zip' is above what she looks. ]

Typical for a Cox 2yo to show a lot of what they can do FTO and Angie's Girl able to lead and then put up some resistance to BB. Bit smaller than BB if a bit more build overall. But another looking 74 ish and not a definite Open Maiden converter.

Big Sky by the Australian sire Fastnet Rock who was a 5-6f Grade 1 winner and champion sprinter there. Also had a high reputation at stud. His 2yos to have run in Britain 2013-14 have looked less precocious types and many needing 6f+ and out of line with his 'Top Sprinter' billing. No win above maiden level either. BSky's training partner - Modest - ran a moderate 3rd as favourite on debut 2 days after this run in a thin looking auction race. BS the biggest in the field and some scope. Ran widest from the rail and travelled ok to 2f out. Bit green and changing lead when asked for her effort and appearing to lack the pace of the first 2. Ought to be 75+ but perhaps 7f depending how much of the lack of kick was greenness here.

Gap back to the final 4 home (Pop Culture, Funny Oyster, Whitstable Pearl & Canford Star) looked a real Quality divide. Usable 60s at best types and a mix of odd hsapes and plain small in CS case (OR57 nursery?). WPearl a bit more bulk but not picking up last 2f on rail & poss green or movement issue? Relable trainer so of some interest in a BATH/BTON lesser race. FOyster a weak back end & 64-5?
